    Ghost on the Post

    The Story of "Boo"

"A long time ago on a haunted Halloween night,

A ghost named Boo was born, but something wasn’t right.

All ghosts are invisible, but this one was different,

You could see little Boo – and her colors were simply brilliant!

Boo was the newborn ghost of a little kid,

Who had an accident from a car that slid,

She passed away crossing a road,

From a speeding car that should have slowed!

We should all be more careful,

Cars and trucks can be scareful,

    Look both ways in town,

All of us drivers should slow down!

When Boo was first born, her parents said, “You’re beautiful in your own way,”

But other ghosts teased her saying, “Please go away!”

Boo sat alone at lunch, and wasn’t invited to birthdays,

But she stayed positive and hoped to change their ways.

Boo found ways to learn and have fun,

She loved to read, and play, and run,

She also loved to sit and watch cars driving by,

And she waved at the families and said “Hi”

Boo was afraid of a car that was speeding one day,

And she saw a little boy running that way!

Boo sprang into action to help the little lad,

She was able to stop him & prevent something bad!

The boy’s name was Zach, and they became friends for life,

They studied together, and read books, and enjoyed hikes,

Boo showed Zach how to look both ways before crossing the street,

And they told their story to all the children they would meet.

When Halloween came, the town wanted to go Trick or Treating,

Everyone was excited for costumes, candy, and eating.

But the ghosts were sad, and started to pout,

They were invisible, so they couldn’t go out!

When Boo heard the news, she was sad for a while,

But she had an idea that made her smile!

Boo could go Trick or Treating because she could be seen!

And she’ll share candy with the others who had been mean.

So Boo got dressed to collect candy for all the ghosts,

And since she was fast, she would get the most!

Boo noticed some kids grabbed too much candy if they dared,

But others followed the rules because they cared.

So Boo rewarded the children who shared with others,

She left a gift for them, and told their mothers.

Boo raced through the night from cities to towns,

It was a magical night of tasty treats, smells and sounds.

Boo also saw something Bad while trick or treating,

Some of the cars were actually Speeding!

Boo sprang into action and called a Cop,

And everyone yelled and they were able to stop!

Boo was a hero by the end of the night,

All the kids loved her with all their might.

And the tradition grows more fun and amazing,

Boo returns every year to see the kids behaving!

All the ghosts return on the first of October,

They watch the kids from their posts all over,

They always leave gifts to children who are dear,

And then they disappear until next year!

    The End.

***  Dedicated to my daughter Morgan who died at Halloween and all the loved ones we’ve lost on the highways xo

Be careful out there.  Please slow down as we all must do.
